MCP & AI Assistants

Nifty supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard for connecting AI assistants to the tools you already use. With a few clicks you can let an assistant like Claude, Cursor, or ChatGPT work directly with your Nifty tasks, projects, and docs, so you can plan, search, and update work in plain language without leaving your assistant.

Read the setup guide in our Help Center for step-by-step instructions.

How it works

Your assistant connects to Nifty as you, using a scoped access token that you generate. It never receives or holds your password. The connection is user-directed: your own AI client connects to Nifty and pulls data using your credential. Nifty does not independently send your data to any AI provider, and the MCP server talks only to the Nifty backend.

An assistant can read and, when you allow it, create, edit, and delete content, but never beyond your own role permissions and never beyond what you can already see in the app. Per-project privacy, guest and client limits, and hidden-task rules all continue to apply to the connection exactly as they apply to you.

You are in control

  • Off by default. MCP is opt-in. Nothing is shared until you actively create a token or authorize a connection.
  • Choose the scope. When you create a token you pick a preset (Read-only, Full access, or Custom) and, for Custom, the exact resources and actions the assistant may use. Read-only is the default and recommended option.
  • Set an expiry. Tokens can be given an expiration of up to 365 days. Shorter-lived tokens are safer.
  • Revoke anytime. You can revoke any of your own tokens from Settings → MCP & AI assistants → API tokens. After you revoke, the assistant stops working within about a minute. For assistants connected over OAuth (such as ChatGPT), you can also disconnect from that provider's side.

Privacy and security

  • Tokens are not stored in a recoverable form. Nifty stores only a one-way hash of each token (HMAC-SHA-256), never the token itself.
  • Minimal logging. Nifty does not persist the content your assistant reads or the arguments of the actions it takes as part of its audit records; those records capture operational telemetry only (such as which tool ran, how long it took, and whether it succeeded).
  • Your data goes to the assistant you choose. When you connect an assistant, the in-scope Nifty data your assistant requests is shared with that AI provider and becomes subject to their terms and privacy policy. Choose assistants you trust.
  • US hosting. Nifty is hosted on Amazon Web Services in the United States.

For the full details of what data can be accessed and how we handle it, see our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

Supported assistants

You can connect Claude Desktop, Cursor, and ChatGPT, as well as any other client that speaks the Model Context Protocol, including Continue, Cline, Windsurf, and Zed. You will find all of these under Settings → MCP & AI assistants inside your Nifty workspace once the feature is enabled for your team.
