3 Popular Custom Field Templates
Have you ever found yourself wishing that your favorite workflow solution had a standardized field for content or information?
In that case, Custom Fields is out to solve this dilemma. There’s no way that every software can show fields for all possible content across all types of workflows. And even if it could, it would be far too burdensome to use, which is why Custom Fields are the answer to molding your favorite solution to better fit your workflow.

Creating a Custom Field Template
Creating a Custom Field allows you to standardize information — typically on a task — within a project. This makes for a harmonious, unified experience in this single silo.
Employing this same layout of custom standardized information across projects elevates a Custom Field to a Custom Field Template. This cross-project standardization makes scaling your processes and reporting natural while eliminating manual work.
In Nifty, saving a Custom Field into your Custom Field Library allows you to deploy the field in other current or future projects without needing to recreate it.
Custom Field Template: Billable Rate
A famous Custom Field for freelancers and teams who leverage Time Tracking is a Billable Rate field. This field calculates the billable cost of the task in real-time by multiplying tracked time by your billable rate. Optionally, this can be triggered by a manual time entry instead of the time tracker.
In addition to saving this Field to your library, you can select the Hide from Guests tick-box if you’d prefer the Guests (clients) of your project to avoid seeing these rates calculated within Nifty.
Custom Field Template: Dropdown Selector
IT, product, market, and sales teams love leveraging the dropdown Custom Field to add custom information to a ticket. This allows customer success and support teams to bring more details into custom columns in the List view of tasks for easier tracking and management.
Different colors can be selected for the other dropdown options to bring color coding into the workflow mix.
Custom Field Template: Phone / Email / URL
Whether you’re creating a lightweight CRM or storing employee or vendor details; the Phone, Email, and URL fields are a popular way to create and track the personal information of individuals or businesses. For those who want to get even more specific with these details, try adding the Location field to your array of Custom Fields.
Using Custom Fields in Existing or New Projects
Existing Projects
Now that we’ve been sure to add these Custom Fields to our library, we can select the Choose from library option when creating a new field in a pre-existing project.
New Projects
While we can always reference our library for Custom Fields in new projects, we can proactively save Custom Fields into a project’s template to ensure that future projects made from that template will automatically include the appropriate Custom Fields.
